On Wednesday July 1st, we teamed up with past Mayor Beverley Harding  to donate £2,000 to the Whitebourne Care home in Frimley. The home had impressed Beverley so much during her mayoral year that she just had to ask us to add them to our list of charities.

We have a policy to visit every project we support and once we had visited the home we vowed to help them give residents more activity days out to enjoy.

The home provides residential, respite and end of life care for older people, including individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

We surprised Care Home Manger, Ros Stevenson with a telephone call to ask if we could bring past Mayor of Surrey Heath Beverley Harding back to keep her promise and deliver the cheque in person to the residents and staff.

A fabulous afternoon tea was laid on for residents and their guests, we enjoyed our afternoon tea and a chat with some of the residents and staff.

Beverley Harding said “Dementia has a devastating effect on everyone it touches and Ros and her dedicated team do so much more to give their residents at Whitebourne the best time they could wish for”

Cheryl D’Cruz, from LMF, said: “Beverley kindly chose us a her charity of the year when she was Mayor of Surrey Heath back in 2013. She helped us raise over £27k for the Foundation during her term in office. The money raised has been shared out to all our local charities, at various intervals, as they have needed extra funds. Whitebourne really struck a chord with Beverley and we were keen to ensure the final cheque presentation from her funds was a memorable one.

Dementia is a cruel twist of fate for so many lively, intelligent people who deserve a more dignified end; homes like Whitebourne know they can’t cure their residents but they can make each day better and if our money helps them achieve another good day, we know we have achieved our aims.

LMF are all about helping those we can on our doorstep as well as further away.
