Since January 2015, the talented Year 8 students at Kings International College have devoted time in their Geography class to learn more about Tsunami’s: not only how they are caused and the devastating effect they have on the affected areas, but also some of the positive aspects that occurred after events like the Boxing Day Tsunami in Thailand in 2004. Kings then went one step further and incorporated Thai culture into other subjects that term, so that pupils also learnt about Thai dance and cuisine.

The students also got their creative juices flowing by producing designs for our Tsunami Doll competition, and the response was overwhelming! We were so impressed by the thought they put into their entries, although this made it difficult for us to only choose 3 winners! In addition, pupils from the Technology club channelled their enthusiasm for the charity and what they had learnt into some specially designed keyrings that featured the LMF logo; they subsequently plan to produce more and sell them at fundraising events throughout the year.

On Thursday 19th March, LMF were invited to a special presentation from Kings’ students who showcased their talent and hard work through a series of group presentations and even some amazing videos about tsunamis created by some budding film directors. We were blown away by their enthusiasm and dedication, and are so grateful for their support! We look forward to working with Kings this year to produce the merchandise and raise even more funds to help other less fortunate children around the world through our School in a Bag project that transports basic school equipment in rucksacks to poor, remote locations.
