Our Local Heroes mini-series

News

Over the summer, we’ve been producing three films, one on each of our chosen charities. We always feel it’s important to tell you where your money goes and so we decided to make a series entitled Our Local Heroes to showcase the incredible work of those we support. The idea was to bring out the best in each charity so you could get to know them better.

Parity for Disability

Parity for Disability run three day service centres, providing a vital support network for adults with a range of multiple and complex medical conditions and disabilities. It was fantastic seeing how they operate and it was a real pleasure getting to know the students over several days. You can watch Parity’s video below.

Surrey Young Carers

Surrey Young Carers are a vital support network for children as young as 4-18, who care emotionally or physically for an adult or sibling with a long term illness or disability. We really enjoyed visiting Surrey Young Carers’ activity day and it was great chatting to the sessional workers about how much variety their role brings. As well as overseeing the activity days, the sessional workers also run workshops for the carers about the various disabilities they may be working with. Take a look at their inspiring story below.

The Prostate Project

Giving men a better chance of beating prostate cancer, the Prostate Project funds state-of-the-art equipment and supports early diagnosis and effective treatment. We were very interested in going behind-the-scenes at how the Prostate Project saves lives and making this film has taught so much about how important research is in the role of both diagnosing and treating Prostate Project. Being able to meet the researchers in the laboratory gave us a real insight into the depth and complexities they face in the fight against prostate cancer. Learn more about what they do below.

A huge thank you to our fantastic charities who kindly told us their story and featured in our films.

Our thanks go to volunteer filmmaker Nick Ransom who has filmed, edited and directed the series. Nick 2He is off to study Television and Radio at the University of Salford in a few weeks and has volunteered for LMF since last September. A talented young man who has really helped us raise the profile of LMF. Thank you.
