A Week at the Lisa May Foundation…

News

As told by Work Experience student Millie Fisher.

I’m Millie Fisher, a 17 year old Sixth Form student from Cornwall and I have just completed my work experience with the Lisa May Foundation. I chose to do it with them because I’m interested in journalism and copy writing and I thought this would give me a chance to try something like that. I also thought that working with a charity would give me some good experience as well as looking good on my CV. Throughout the week I did many different things alongside Cheryl and Fanni and no two days were the same.

Sunday 30th June

Today was my first day of work experience with The Lisa May Foundation and we ran a stall at the Kennel Lane School Fun Day and this is when I met Cheryl for the first time. Here I helped sell jewellery and also met a few of the people associated with Kennel Lane. I also got a chance to see how money from the Lisa May Foundation has helped Kennel Lane. One of the larger projects was a beautiful Forest School which is obviously loved by many of the pupils. I had a brilliant day as the sun was shining and the people there were all lovely.

Monday 1st July

For my first day in the office I produced a write up of the previous day at Kennel Lane which is now on the LMF website. Later in the day we met with the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Beverley Harding, and had tea in her parlour. Cheryl and Fanni then discussed the Ladies Lunch with Beverley and I was able to get a photo with Beverley.

Tuesday 2nd July

In the morning we went for a meeting with Pine Ridge about the upcoming Christmas Party where I took notes. Here I got a chance to see how an event is organised in the early stages. Back at the office I created an event poster for all of the Mayor’s Charity Events throughout the year. Then later we met with Norma about the Ladies Lunch happening next week, as she is hosting the event at Camberley Guest House, here I took notes again.

Wednesday 3rd July

Throughout today we were all in the office. I wrote a couple of letters and some promotional bits about future events for the website which actually took me most of the day…

Thursday 4th July

For my last day with Cheryl and Fanni at the Lisa May Foundation, all three of us sported our purple LMF shirts as we visited Parity for Disability in the morning. This was a real eye opener for me as I saw the truly passionate people who worked for them and the amazing work they’ve done with the space they have. It was also great to see where the funds the Lisa May Foundation have raised has gone and the difference it has made for the people who use and rely on Parity. Then we went to Farnborough Sainsbury’s where the Lisa May Foundation was presented with a cheque for the total amount of money the staff at Sainsbury’s had raised for them which came to an amazing £6768!

I’ve massively enjoyed this week and I’m so grateful have been given the chance to work with such a great charity. Massive thank you to Cheryl and Fanni!
