Local dentist, Kapil Rijal from Surrey who practices in Hampshire and Berkshire is now back from his long journey to Nepal. A large team of 35 medical professionals and 5 administration staff went to Gumtha, Mugu. The destination is an isolated area of Nepal situated at an altitude of 2,990 metres with no road links and to be reached is a 4 day trek. The team volunteered to treat in excess of 8,000 patients from Gumtha and the 24 surrounding villages, all free of charge.
The team was lead by Dr Bhola Rijal a renowned Gyneacologist and Obstetrician from Nepal, who put together the 35 strong team with expertise in all areas.
The reason for this expedition is simple. These people do not have the luxury of being able to pop to the chemist or ring NHS Direct. In fact the nearest medical centre is one whole days trek on foot, if you are well enough to get there!
Kapil is hoping that his family, friends, colleagues, patients and neighbours might just Pay It Forward in return by sponsoring him to raise money to benefit others.
He is kindly donating all monies raised to ourselves, LMF.
