Bagshot Diamond Jubilee Street Party 2012

News

img_3846On Sunday 3rd June the Bagshot Business Association in conjunction with Bagshot Events hosted a right royal Jubilee party!

The whole street was closed and decked out with flags above every retailer and bunting across the entire length of the street and many stall holders stepped back to the 50’s to remind us of times gone by. Everything had been carefully planned and thought of.

Stall holders came from the surrounding local areas to sell their wares. Children were well catered for with rides, games and of course face painting courtesy of the Windle Valley Youth Project team. The Lisa May tombola was well stocked and all the stall holders became good friends under our canvas rain protection!

An opening ceremony was laid on to bring us all together and tradition was kept with the national anthem being played on electric guitar by the very talented Harry Burlinson who represented the Windle Valley Youth Project. Cllr May was pleased to be invited to make the opening speech and declared the street party officially open.

The visitors came in droves and a right royal party ensued. The raffle organised by Tina Carney was a monster bumper of gifts donated by many retailers. The two charities were chosen to benefit from the profits of the day. The Lisa May Foundation and the Windle Valley Youth Project were delighted to take part and  both of us helped to sell raffle tickets.  We were  truly grateful for the huge efforts made by Howlands to sell tickets throughout the day. The raffle alone raised a fantastic £750! Final totals are still being worked out so there will hopefully be a bit more to come!

The Lisa May tombola was a huge success and we raised over £450 ourselves.

The fashion show provided by Jenny and Lesley from Sadie G was a great event spoilt slightly by the rain but they carried on for the hardy crowd who put up umbrellas and stayed to see the show.

All in all the day was a great memory to mark the Diamond Jubilee and everyone had a great time. True community spirit was felt by all, the retailers were really pleased to see so much support for Bagshot which continues to encourage visitors with open arms.

We hope that this is the first of many Bagshot events that we will be part of.
