Surrey Young Carers Day at Bocketts Farm
News
On Tuesday 20th August the LMF team, Cheryl and Fanni, were invited along to Bocketts Farm Park, Leatherhead where 20 Surrey Young Carers were being treated to a rare day out.
The group aged between just 4 ½ to 8 years old were an absolute delight and it was great to see how much fun they had and how carefree they felt.
Debbie Bell, the main organiser of the event and a Support Worker at SYC, had to work to a very tight budget and planned it so well she really did get the most out of it. The biggest cost of the day was the transport which used up two thirds of the funds. Due to the generosity of Bocketts farm, letting all the adult supervisors in for free, it meant the children got to go on a tractor ride, feed the animals, go home with a few souvenirs from the gift shop and what all children love the most, an ice-lolly! However not all organisations are as giving making other trips more challenging.
This age group only get to go on three outings a year so making it as enjoyable as possible is essential. The location catered for all their needs and there was so much to do it meant the children didn’t get a second to worry or think about their situation at home.
Those who need care have a lot of help and opportunities available to them, where as those who do the caring can sometimes be forgotten. The trip to Bocketts was their day and you can help make them even bigger and better by making a donation to the Lisa May Foundation as in turn we help them.
