The Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr. Beverley Harding very kindly hosted our Valentine’s Lunch on Friday 14th February at the Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut.

Thanks to our guests the lunch was a sell-out success and raised a fantastic £1,255 which we will share with a handful of deserving charities we support; Surrey Young Carers, Parity for Disability and The Prostate Project.

Both the Mayor and the ourselves, LMF delivered short speeches, but the best was saved for last.  As after a two course gourmet lunch Guest Speaker, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP addressed the room about sharing the love and how important it is to help those on your doorstep and the difference it can make. He also spoke fondly and amusingly about his recent TV appearances and credited those he had met, including Alan Titchmarsh and Holly Willoughby.

Before and after lunch local saxophonist Robert Webb entertained the guests with his musical skills and he had kindly donated his time, for which the Mayor was truly grateful.

Everyone had a delightful afternoon and felt privileged to be able to dine in such beautiful surroundings and appreciated the opportunity to view the medal room, pictures and other items steeped in history.

The Mayor has one more charity event to come, the Mayor’s ‘Lisa May’ Ball on Friday 2nd May at Pennyhill Park Hotel. She hopes many people and local businesses will join her for the celebrations.
